Guizhou Tours

China has the greatest concentration of karst topography of any nation in the world. It is so well endowed with caves across the country, it could well be called the "Kingdom of Caves" Now, nearly 400 caves have been developed as tourist attractions, accounting for half of the tourist caves in the world. That said, There is only one of them that enjoys four titles-"National Key Tourist Area." "National Geological Park." "A Trop 40 Tourist Attraction" and "Museum of Karst" , That one is the Zhijin Cave.

The cave is situated in the Bijie Prefecture of Guizhou, between the Liuchong and Sancha rivers, both of them sources of the Wujiang River. The first thing about the beauty of the Zhiiin Cave is its colossal volume. Its entrance sits half way up a mountainside in the northeast of Zhijin County; it is bout l 5 meters high, 20 meters wide, shaped like a tiger's mouth. But inside this ordinary entrance, lies a world of vastness.

At present, its confirmed length is 12.1 kilometers.consisting of four levels and five subsidiary caves, with a total floor area of 700, 000 square meters-way bigger than Tian'anmen Square's 440,000 square meters. Its height  normally ranges between 60 and l 00 meters, but at its highest point of about l 50 meters it is as tall as a 50-storey building. Furthermore, it cannot be traced how many collapses it took place over its long geological history to shape today's l2 splendid caverns and 47 rooms. Among the "rooms."there are five over l0,000 square meters in area; the biggest is called Shiwan Dashan(0ne Hundred Thousand Great Mountains). This is about 70,000 square meters in area-equivalent to 10 football pitches-but it is not open to tourists yet.

Zhijin Cave is not only large in scale but also rich in variety. The space formed by the roof and walls of the cave is sometimes conical, at other points arched, oblong, or square...The 6.6-kilometer route open to visitors is in some parts deep and serene, other times it is lively and simple, as high as the night sky, or so low you could touch its roof; at times it is as wide as a boundless plain, at others as narrow as a valley path, as large as the firmament, as close as a canopy, as steep as a cliff or as flat as a field.

Unlike other caves which are normally rather empty, the Zhijin Cave is like God's treasure-house for keeping the world's most beautiful natural scenery. It has over than 40 kinds of speleothems, among them stalagmites, stelae, stone "pagodas," "drums," "shields," "flowers." helictites, and "beds." Nowhere else in the world has such a large variety or concentration of deposits? The Zhijin Cave stalagmites come in a great variety of amazing shapes-frozen mushrooms, flower petals, pine cones, pointed pagodas and helmets for example. The jewels in the crown are its two unique stalagmites, the Silvery-Rain Tree and the Overlord's Helmet.

Time contributes a lot to the beauty of the subterranean world. Scientists can deduce the relative climate, topography and environmental changes from speleothems. The Zhijin Cave is a dry cave that lost its subterranean river long, long ago. Now people can only imagine what the fiver looked like. About l.2 million years ago?the Zhijin Cave collapsed because of corrosion, erosion, scouring, seepage, and changes of flow volumes, eventually forming huge chambers.  About 250,000 years ago, surface water no longer infiltrated into the cave and it became a dry cave, and gradually calcium carbonate speleothems began to take shape.

One intriguing thing was the discovery of a nearly l 00-square-meter area of animal excrement and an one-meter-tall pile of hard thorns in a small branch cave on the second level of the Zhijin Cave. By isotope testing, experts have identified them as the remains of a group of extinct hedgehogs that liked cave living. Over 1,000 years ago, hedgehogs dwelt in this cave. They must have lived there for a long time to have left such "deep" remains.

shanghai hotel airport
how much spending money do I need to take with me to Beijing and Shanghai?

I just booked a much needed holiday package to beijing and shanghai. The package includes my airfare, airport transfer, hotel, fare to shanghai, tours and a meal plan of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

So basically all I need is just money for my personal spending like shopping, tipping and stuff like that. I would also love to do a bit of shopping, I'm not really looking at high class malls, just reasonably priced places to do shopping.

Pls how muh do you think I should take with me for a 6days and 5nights trip? thank you.

Depends, do you speak chinese? If not then it will be harder to bargain. You still can try but I mean you are there to relax and have fun. Beijing and Shanghai are some of the most expensive cities in China, well for Chinese. I would say bring a good $500. That should pretty much cover everything.

When I go on trips shooting lows normally makes me end up spending more. So just be safe and take as much as you can. imo

Travelers Checks can be a hassle though. Almost all small banks don't take them they always direct you to a larger bank. Maybe some international hotels but I am not too sure of that because I don't live in a hotel here I live in a apartment. >.<

Shanghai.Flights and prices from Shanghai? Good 3 star hotel?

I am planning on taking a flight to Shanghai in December(cheapest from Finland) and flying from there on to warmer places like Hainan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok etc... Does anybody know which flights are available, what are the prices and should I buy tickets at the airport or beforehand, if so from where. Hotel recommendations under 50 dollars a double/night and 3 stars also appreciated.

Well if you want direct flights from Europe, you will first have to fly to Frankfurt (Air France or Lufthansa), Paris (Air France) or Armsterdam (KLM). Have you tried www.kayak.com ?.

If you are looking for flights from China to Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok or even within China, you can try www.ctrip.com, its better to buy flights in the departing country.

Hotels in Shanghai is incredibly cheap. I have stayed at a 2 star hotel for less than US$20/day. The rooms are clean but there isn't a lot of amenities. Again, I recommend you try some web sites in China (they have English) & you can find out where to stay and what they have.

You probably want to stay near a subway station or at least in Puxi area and not in Pudong because its very far from the city center. If you decide to stay in Pudong, Lujiazhui is an excellent area as it is right across from the river (Bund).

Again, try www.ctrip.com

Nepal Tours

Nepal Tours

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to, especially some of the more unusual ones. I try to give a good opinion on those places and offer some helpful advice, with that in mind, here then are my top suggestions for sites to visit during your holiday in Nepal.

Nepal’ s capital city is Kathmandu with other smaller cities which include, Biratnagar, Patan, Pokhara, Birgunj, Dharan and Nepalgunj. The climate is sub tropical in Kathmandu as opposed to further south of the country where the summers are cooler and the winters are severe in the mountains. Nepal is home to 8 of the most highest peaks in the world one of which includes Mount Everest. This is one of the reasons that Nepal has become a country that attracts many tourists as there are plenty opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, camping, jungle safaris, fishing, river rafting, its stunning places of worship and majestic temples.

June through to September is the time when the monsoon season occurs in Nepal, during which showers occur almost every day.

There are many tourist attractions in Kathmandu many of which are temples, here are some of the most amazing Machchhendrananth Temple is noted for its elaborate artistic beauty. Pashupatinath Temple has a beautiful two tiered golden roof and silver doors it is also famous for its creative architecture. Atop the Phulchowki mountain is another shrine to behold.

The main square of the city (Durbar Square) contains many other temples and architectural statues and structures such as the lion gate and the statue of King Bhupatindra Malla.

Dattatraya Temple is believed to have been built entirely from trunk of a single tree.

Pokhara is a city in central Nepal making one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. It is located on the north west corner of the Pokhara Valley where its beautiful lake cascades into impressive waterfalls and then disappears with a thunderous roar into a hole.

This wonderful city has a sub tropical climate and is home to some unique and vibrant festivals which enchant the onlooker with its cultural festivities.

Langtang National Park is one of the most natural and unspoiled parks of Nepal. The Langtang Valley, hillside covered in forests and the holy lakes at Gosainkunda are some of the jewels of the park. This stunning landscape is home to the red panda along with the Himalayan black bear, grey langur monkey, leopard and wild boar. This park has to be explored on foot and offers many trails for the visitor to choose from.

If you have taken the time to visit Nepal then, whatever you beliefs, it is worth experiencing Lumbini the birthplace of Buddha more than 2600 years ago. It is a place that is enclosed with forests making the atmosphere tranquil and serene.

Mount Everest is the world's tallest mountain and can be experienced in a variety of ways. You can see the mountain with a flight-seeing tour, visit places in Nepal where there are specific sites to view the mountain, although this is of course not so close up. There is only a short window for ascending the mountain for the more adventurous among you. This is between April and May with the easiest route to the summit being the southern ridge and by far the most popular.

Datong Tours

Lying in the northern area of Shanxi Province, Datong is one of the 24 famous historical and cultural cities in China. Surrounded by Inner Mongolia, Shuozhou, and Xinzhou on the west and south side, and Hebei Province on the east, Datong has four districts and seven counties under its prefecture with a population of 2.99 million.

Known as the 'City of the Coal', Datong has developed into the second largest industrial city in Shanxi due to its advantage in energy. Its large reserves of coal make it a very important energy base for China.

Under the influence of continental monsoon climate of temperate zone, Datong’s climate is dry and windy, and the temperature varies greatly between day and night.
