the three gorges dam

What would happen if the three gorges dam collapsed?
the three gorges dam is the largest dam on earth, and it cost like a billion so if it breaks how much could it cost?
what would it do?
how many would it kill?
It would be an economic disaster for China, similar to what might happen for the US. if the Hoover Dam and Parker Dam and Glen Canyon Dam and others on the Colorado River were to collapse or the Aswan Dam in Egypt or other giant dams around the world.
There would also be a return to the frequent massive floods (now being controlled to a great extent by the dam) that has killed millions of people many times.
Therefore it is highly unlikely to happen as greater technology and safety features have been built into it than previous large dams.

There's an old Chinese adage that says: "People view food as the most important". That pretty much sums up my view on food as well. I love to eat all types of food and cuisine, and I especially enjoy the hot and spicy food of the Szechuan province in China.
China's food and cuisine has had a long history. The five flavors of spicy, sweet, bitter, sour, and salty has been used in Chinese cooking over 3,000 years ago. Today, traditional Chinese food ranks among the worlds best and most popular. Authentic Chinese cuisine focus on 3 key aspects: taste, color (display), and fragrance, and Chinese cooking is very particular about cutting style and cooking temperature.
The official currency of China is the RMB (RenMinBi), or translated as "the people's currency". The basic unit is the Yuan (or kuai), or equivalent to what we call the "dollar" in North America. Next unit down is the "Jiao" (or also "mao"), or "10 cents". Finally, the smallest unit is the "Fen", equivalent to our "penny".

3 gorges dam

Fishing is one of favorite past times or hobbies for many people. The thrill of having a big catch is the objective of this activity which makes it fun and exciting. There are many methods in catching fish and fly fishing is one of them.
Fly fishing is a very unique technique that uses artificial flies, fly rod and fly line. You could be able to catch fishes like salmon and trout. However, there are many fly anglers who use this method to catch other species such as carp, pike, pan fish, bass, snook, bonefish and red fish also. The fly line used is made up of plastic coating. Artificial flies come in different variants in terms of weight, size and color.
Most common natural materials used in making artificial flies are feathers or fur and horse hair connected to a hook. But recently, other types of materials are also used and have become very popular too. These flies are created to look attractive to the target species. The colors are chosen according to that of insects and baitfish of these species.
In later years, fly fishing became a popular sport too. Many clubs were established due to the increasing number of people taking up an interest on this activity. Many competitions were held that drew lots of participants from different places.
There are several fly fishing rivers identified suitable for such activity in the United States. Some of these rivers include Pit, Big Horn, Mc Cloud and the Green River in Flaming Gorge dam. The latter is the most popular among the rivers.
Green River naturally became famous because of its abundant trout. It is a perfect place for fly fishing not to mention that the river features a natural beauty making it a good place for camping.
Based on the records of the Division of Wildlife Resources, this river has a population of 20,000 fishes every mile. This ratio is simply advantageous both to beginners and pro fishers. There is little waiting time to catch fish with such abundance.
Green River is divided into three sections. The sections are assigned with letters A, B and C.
Section A is a seven mile stretch starting from the Flaming Gorge Dam to the Little Hole. There are more than a hundred thousand fishes in this section which makes it the most favorite among the three. There are available guides in the areas which can teach you fishing techniques as well as those areas where you can get a better catch. It is the favorite spot of beginners because it is easy to get a catch here. It is also a viable place for kayaking and rafting.
Section B is a nine mile stretch from Little Hole to Browns Park. It contains fewer fishes compared to Section A but sufficient enough to have a good catch. This is a good spot for fishers in the intermediate level. It is quite difficult to get a catch here that will require some acquired skills.
Section C is the most challenging. The fishes are wilder and spookier which makes it a favorite spot for highly skilled fishermen. It is normally not crowded here because only a few hobbyists will enjoy such a difficult catch. For the most challenging fly fishing experience, section B is the right place.
If you want to experience the adventure of fly fishing, it is important to visit any of the fly shops near the river so they could suggest which section is appropriate for your skills. They would also provide you with all the rules and regulations particular for fishing in Green River.

china yangtse

Tea is the world's most consumed beverage next to water. It is good for the body with many health benefits.
Tea was originally served as a medicine before it became a largely consumed beverage. It can be traced from the early chinese medicine and botany. The tea plant was originally grown in southern China.
Tea can relieve fatigue, delight the soul, strengthen the will, and repair the eyesight. It was not only applied as an internal drug but also administered externally in the form of paste used in alleviating pains caused by rheumatism. The Buddhists extensively consumed tea in keeping them alert during long hours of deep meditation. The Taoists regarded tea as a substantial component
of immortality.
Tea was adverted to in the classics with different names such as Tou, Chung, Tseh, Kha and Ming. This beverage became a favorite among the dwellers in the valley of the Yangtse-Kiang on the fourth and fifth century. It was during this era that the new ideogram Cha was made up. The southern dynasties' poets imparted some pieces of their fervid idolization of the tea.
The emperors of the Chinese empire used the "froth of the liquid jade" in bestowing some rare preparation of the tea leaves on their senior ministers as a pay back for their high services. Even so, the way of drinking tea at this period in time was extremely primitive. The leaves of the tea were steamed, beaten in a mortal, formed into a cake, and then boiled with salt, rice, ginger, orange peel, milk, spices and sometimes together with onions also.
The customs among the different Mongolian tribes and Tibetans who make peculiar syrup of these ingredients was obtained and remain until now. The survival of the ancient procedure of drinking tea points to the use of slices of lemon by the Russians who learned to get tea from the Chinese caravan inn.
A hand of a master is necessary to bring the noblest quality of tea. The Tang dynasty's Luwuh helped in emancipating tea from its primitive state to its ultimate idealization. Luwuh developed the Code of Tea in his famous work the "Chaking" (The Holy Scripture of Tea). The culmination of tea-ideals was shown in the Japanese tea ceremony.
Tea is the dried and treated leaves of one species of plant known as Camellia sinensis or Thea sinensis. Herbal infusions or herbal teas are not really teas rather dried herbs or flowers. Though tea plant has only one species, its major variety is classified into three.
The first is China. It generally flourishes at high altitudes and has small leaves. The second is India (or Assam, with larger leaves thrives at low altitudes. The third is Hybrid with characteristics of both Indian and Chinese tea.
Processing tea has four main methods, produces four different tea types: white tea, green tea, black tea and oolong tea.
White tea simply is the leaves of the processed camellia sinensis. It is the least common type of tea. It does not undergo any oxidation process. White teas are instantly steamed or fired after drying them for a certain period of time. There are no bruising, breaking or rolling needed.
Green tea is processed using similar method with that of white tea. The leaves are sometimes let to wither for 8 to 24 hours after they are plucked. It allows most water to evaporate. Then, the leaves are pan fried or steamed to neutralize the enzymes. The leaves are then rolled up in different ways and tightness. Next, a final drying completes the process. The tea has a green color since no oxidation happened.
Processing black tea involves full oxidation. The leaves are plucked, laid out for 8 to 24 hours, and then rolled to crack the leaves' surface up to begin the oxidation process. The leaves are allowed to oxidize completely making the leaves' color turn deep black.
In processing oolong tea, the dried tea leaves are tossed in baskets until bruises appear in the edges of the leaves. The bruising makes the leaves oxidize partially because only some of the enzymes are exposed to the atmosphere. The leaves are then finally dried, sorted, graded and carefully packaged.

the three gorges

My two cruises along the Li River in Guilin and the Yangtze River are the most highlights in my fabulous 10 days china vacation. My trip starts from Beijing. After 3 days traveling there and a wonderful Beijing Duck dinner, we fly to Guilin and rest at Fubo hotel.
Guilin's scenery is quite different from Beijing. Not so modern and filled with more native soil feeling. The hills look so elegant. My tour guide is a lovely lady. She told us "if you come to china without visiting Guilin, your trip is not completed". Is it true?
My essence tour in Guilin starts at next morning after my breakfast. We drive about 40 minutes away from the city and start an excursion by boat along the Li River. The boat we took is a three levels one with an open deck on the top where I like to climb to enjoy the scenery along the bank or take photos. Along the river, we are inspired by the picturesque mountains, peaceful green fields, crystal-clear water, lush bamboos and villages with water buffaloes. The famous scenic spots like "Yearning for Husband Hill, Crown Cave, Painted Cliff, Reflection of Yellow Beach, Xingping Town, Five Fingers Hill, etc." are so pleasing to the eyes and the mind. The most interesting part is we come to a small village for 1 hour to visit a nearby school after we arrive at Yangshuo. I even get two grapefruits from the local students as gifts. They all look so lovely. I like the way to communicate with local chinese directly.
In all, this 4-5 hours sailing was a fabulous trip and we were enjoyed so much and eager to tell more people to do this.
The popular food in Guilin is local noodle. It is quite different. If you visit there, don't forget to taste it.
Yangtze Cruise is the last destination in my 10 days trip. I want to have a look of the largest water conservancy project- Three Gorges Dam.
Normally there are downstream and upstream cruising routes available. Starting from chongqing to Yichang, or Wuhan and Shanghai is downstream where starting from Wuhan, Shangahai or Yichang to Chongqing is upstream. Upstream direction needs one day more on the ship. I choose to leave China from Shanghai so downstream is suitable for me.
The ship we took was Yangtze Paradise, a ship with five decks and houses 196 passengers and 120 crews. The ship is always known as "the flowing hotel." On the ship we get many Chinese style entertainments such as the lesson about Chinese painting and calligraphy, pearls, Jades. I just try Taiji in the morning. It is not so difficult to try Taiji. There are also traditional folk performance at the nighttime. It is really big fun on this trip. We are not only to view the beautiful scenery but also get more friends from different countries on the board.
The daily shore excursion to Fengdu, Shennong stream and Three gorges dam site also make us exciting. We take a smaller wooden boat called "pea-pod boat" drifting along Shennong Stream. Shennong Stream is a small tributary of Yangtze River with 60 kilometers long, popular with its special virtues of serenity, uniqueness, primitiveness and wilderness. We are quite excited to view the groups of monkeys sporting among the trees, ancient hanging coffins, and the minority people.
Three Gorges Dam is the largest water conservancy project ever undertaken by man. It will be 2,335 meters long, 185 meters high, 18 meters wide on the top and 130 meters wide at the bottom. Upon arrival at Sandouping, we have a chance to get a bird's eye view of the magnificent project from the observation deck. We also observe the five-step ship lock, the diversion canal, the dam in construction, and the power station.

The price sheet is available in your Yangtze cabin room.
However please note that there is no ironing boards in the cabin.
Many people travel china for about 2 weeks, the cruise ships on the Yangtze river are about 3 or 4 nights. A sample itinerary is Beijing (Great Wall) - Xian (Terracotta Warriors) - Yangtze River cruise 3 nights from Chongqing to Yichang (Three Gorges, and Three Gorges Dam) - Shanghai. Many find the 3 or 4 nights on-board are good time to relax; and a chance to do laundry.
The full capacity of the Yangtze cruise are around 250 passengers, if you have already accumulated lots of laundry to do, we suggest you do the day when you check-in. Otherwise it may take long to get your clothe back. Most of the cabins will not allow you to do laundry in the bathroom because the basin may not strong enough. Also hairdryer is not allowed to be used to dry the clothe yourself.

china’s three gorges

The capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing is a municipality directly under the control of the central government of China. Situated on the eastern coast of the country on the Pacific Ocean, with the Taihang Mountain to the north and the Yanshan Mountain to the west, Beijing is one of the largest metropolitan areas of trade and finance, and is the center of politics and international exchanges.
The city's history as the capital of the country dates back to more than 800 years, during the reign of Yuan Dynasty. Beijing is endowed with a variety of historical as well as awesome attractions, which are further mentioned in this article.
The greatest of all the attractions in Beijing is the Forbidden City, which is the most magnificent as well as splendid architectural palace complex in the country. Constructed between 1406 and 1420, the Forbidden City is also known as the Palace Museum, and is one among the top five palaces in the world.
Another remarkable attraction in the city is the Summer Palace, an amazing imperial palace that once served as the summer resort of the Qing Dynasty. The highlight of the palace is a royal garden, which stands as a stupendous example of imperial garden in classic chinese style.
Beijing is also home to the Great Wall, the only man-made structure that is visible from the moon. Equally worth mentioning is such historical sites as the Temple of Haven, where according to legends, the Ming and Qing emperors carried out solemn rituals for plentiful harvests. Built in 1420, the temple is the largest of its kind in the country.
Top attractions in Beijing also include Beihai Park, an exquisite destination spread across more than 65 hectares of land, of which half of the area is occupied by water. One of the oldest Chinese gardens, the park once served as the imperial gardens of dynasties including Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. The highlights of the park are categorized into four sections: Qionghua Islet, Circular City, the northern bank area, and the eastern bank area.
Occupying an area of about 40 sq mt is a group of mausoleums of 13 Ming emperors as well as their empresses, which are collectively referred to as the Ming Tombs. Of the Ming Tombs that are open to the public are Changling and Dingling, which in turn is an incredible underground palace. Beijing also has to its credit the world's largest city square - Tian'anmen Square, located in the center of city, covering an area of 400,000 sq km. The focal point of the square is a towering monument, which commemorates the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the country.
Other top attractions in the region are the Sacred Way - the main road leading to the Ming Tombs; Lama Temple - the largest lamasery in the city; and Hutongs, which are a kind of lane lined by courtyards consisting of compound houses on either side.
No visit to Beijing would be complete with out taking a trip to such landmarks of the city as Ancient Cliff House, also known as Guyaju; Baiwangshan Forest Park, surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers; Beijing Aquarium within the Beijing Zoo; Beijing Botanical Garden, containing a rare species of plants and flowers; Memorial of Jiaozhuanghu Tunnel Warfare Site; Jiufeng National Forest Park; Shihua Cave, acknowledged as the 'Underground Pearl of Beijing;' and Zhangfang Ancient Battle Tunnel, which was erected during the reign of Emperor Song Zhenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty.
A good number of museums can also be found in the city, such as, Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum, China Printing Museum, Museum of Dabaotai Han Tomb, China Bee Museum, Xu Beihong Museum, and Museum of West Zhou Yandu Relics.
Beijing is a venue for a plethora of exciting festivals, including Lantern Festival, Beijing Spring Festival, and Longqing Gorge Lantern Festival. The city also hosts a range of international events like the International Entomological Conference and the Asian Games.
With these umpteen attractions, Beijing is visited by people year-round. Hence, Beijing comes with a variety of accommodation choices to cater to every taste and pocket. Many of the resorts and hotels are within easy reach of almost all attractions and facilities of the city. Some hotels even provide packages inclusive of accommodation, dining, and facilities for sightseeing.
