Most of us do not associate "Made in China" with luxury or designer brands but more and more of those fancy Italian shoes you like so much are actually made in China. You just may not find a tag inside the shoe saying so.
Especially in the current economic market, the sales of luxury items have decreased significantly and some designer brands are suffering. One of the most effective ways to cut costs is to move the base of operation overseas, and China provides one of the most appealing markets to set up shop.
The fact that "American" or "European" shoes are made in China is no secret. Nike has long been associated with "Made in China" shoes; in fact, approximately one in three of Nike's sneakers come with a "Made in China" sticker. This compromise is trickier for designer brands such as Chanel, Prada and Armani that have built the success of their brand on "European craftsmanship" through and through. One of the reasons that someone might spend an extra 300 dollars on a Prada shoe is that they want a piece of artisanal Europe. They want to believe that what they are purchasing is the real deal - an Italian leather shoe built by someone who knows and loves the art of shoemaking, not by a factory worker in China.
So which companies have jumped continents? Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Bally and Prada, to name a few brands. But not all of these companies are willing to publicize this new base of operation. In fact, in some of these shoes you will find a "Made in Italy" label where perhaps a "Made in China" label should be instead. This is possible thanks to some very flexible labeling laws which base a product's label on the final point of production. So shoes made in China will have a leather sole attached in Italy and Voila! The shoes are legally "Made in Italy".
That is not to say that these shoes are worse quality now than when they were manufactured in Europe. The claim is that workers in China are fast and precise. That is, they are capable of making equally high-quality shoes just in less time and for less money.
According to Giorgio Bonacarso - a chemical supplier who sells products to chinese factories that manufacture Italian shoes - nine out of 10 of the high-end Italian shoe companies are now making at least part of their shoes in China. You, the consumer, may not be aware of it, and that is because the designer brands are afraid of backlash and losing the image that made them stand out from the pack in the first place.

Together with the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, everyone is talking about the huge opportunities opening up in China. As the chinese government is liberalizing the economy, industries such as tourism, manufacturing and service are investing their revenue especially for the upcoming Olympic Games.
China expects a huge pre-Olympic investment boom and feels very optimistic towards the Beijing's Olympic economy. MNCs in the market sectors such as telecommunications, banking and real estate are planning to hop onto the bandwagon and take the chance to market their brand globally as the driving forces of the China market are prevailing. Ambitious companies from all over the world want a piece of the growing market benefits.
Both domestic and foreign brands are trying to get hold of the chance to showcase their brand value. For local brands, the Olympics would help them to expose the brand internationally as foreigners would be entering China for the Olympics in 2008. Foreign investors are also trying to enter into the China market as the Chinese government is liberalizing the economy.
However, entrance to China market does have its flipped side. Like a two sided coin, the China market is attractive due to their large consumer demand and growth prospect but China is not an easy market. As China has its unique business style and a rich heritage culture, many foreign investors are finding it hard to make it work in China.
Foreign-invested companies bring a myriad of benefits to China, namely investment, expertise, management techniques and jobs of all levels. However, Chinese companies fear foreign investors' competitive advantages and are moving fast to solidify their own market share.
Domestic companies have grown in confidence and enhanced their products quality. With better products and marketing tactics, local companies are increasing their market share and profits. This is one of the downfalls for foreign investors in the China market. Foreign companies have to find ways to fight off the local competition whereby some had to lower their prices to gain more market share.
It is very important to partner up with local firms as establishing in China requires patience and commitment. Local firms will provide the necessary network (Guanxi) for foreign investors with regard to the administrative work or business dealings.
The Chinese places a strong importance on having a good relationship (Guanxi) with all types of organizations regardless if they are commercial or personal based. The Chinese uses the Chinese word, “Guanxi” to represent any close relationship they have with an individual or an organization. Having Guanxi in China would allow things to be done faster and allow a higher chance of clinching a deal. Furthermore, companies need to pay close attention to the local culture and regulations.
There are effective ways to enter into the China market without treating the China market like a lion’s den. One would be to find out a detailed research on China market. In addition, consulting a local individual or organization would enable an easier access to China market network and providing their expertise on handling the Chinese culture and procedures.

Some of the criticisms done to the use documentary credit include the complexity of operations, the involvement of different actors in the business, the degree of administrative failures resulting in significant load in the chain, the stiffness of procedures, and the lack of automation of the tasks.

International business is all business transactions-private and governmental-that involve two or more countries. Why should one be interested in studying international business? The simplest answer is that international business comprises a large and growing portion of the world's total business. Today, almost all companies, large or small, are affected by global events and competition because most sell output to and/or secure suppliers from foreign countries and/or compete against products and services that come from abroad.
More companies that engage in some form of international business are involved in exporting and importing than in any other type of business transaction. Many of the international business experts argue that exporting is a logical process with a natural structure, which can be viewed primarily as a method of understanding the target country's environment, using the appropriate marketing mix, developing a marketing plan based upon the use of the mix, implementing a plan through a strategy and finally, using a control method to ensure the strategy is adhered to. This exporting process is reviewed and evaluated regularly and modifications are made to the use of the mix, to take account of market changes impacting upon competitiveness. This view seems to suggest that much of the international business theory related to enterprises, which are internationally based and have global ambitions, does often change depending on the special requirements of each country.
Another core issue is the company's growth and the importance of networking and interaction. This view looks at the way in which companies and organisations interact and consequently network with each other to gain commercial advantage in world markets. The network can be using similar subcontractors or components, sharing research and development costs or operating within the same governmental framework. Clearly, when businesses formulate a trading block with no internal barriers they are actually creating their own networks. Collaborations in aerospace, vehicle manufactures and engineering have all sponsored the development of a country's or a group of countries' outlook based on their own internal market network. This network and interaction approach to internationalisation shows the substance of being able to influence decisions when knowing how the global network players work or interact.
For example, a crucial market network is that of the Middle East. Middle East countries are rich, diverse markets, with a vibrant and varied cultural heritage. This means that although there has been a harmonisation process during the past few years, differences still exist. Rather than business being simpler as a result, it should be recognised that because of regulations and the need those countries have to restructure as they enter the global market, performing any kind of business can be highly complex. It should be remembered though that the Middle-Eastern countries have a low-income average and like to have their cultural differences recognised. Those firms that will or have recognised these facts have a good chance of developing a successful marketing strategy to meet their needs. Fortunately some firms have realised these important differences and reacted adequately when strategic decisions had to be made regarding their penetration to this kind of markets.

Visiting Shanghai and Ningbo?
I'm going to be spending some time in Shanghai and Ningbo at the end of June, my schedule is pretty busy, but if anyone has advice about where to go, what to see, that would be great.
thanks
If you like cheap shopping, in Shanghai you better go to Xiang Yang Market. It's a field full of small stands which sell lots of garment, toys, handbags, sneaker, leather...you name it! Better have a local to assist you or at least someone who speaks chinese. There'll be lots of "sales" approching offering catalogues from their stand n some of them will try to pull you physically. Just ignore them, say "MEI SHE!" means : "I'm OK ..(get lost!)". If you spend more time there, you might find nice piece, but the most importand thing is bargaining. You can get less than half the price they proposed.
If you enjoy paintings, there's a nice gallery there. I was a gallery manager looking for paintings back then. It's called "The Room With a View", 12th F. No. 479 Nanjing Rd (E), Shanghai,200001, the manager is Holly Zhao. Fortunately she speaks little english. Nice gallery, nice paintings, nice manager.
The no.1 have-to-see is The Bund. There's a river called Huang Pu Jiang with nice view. It divides the old and new area of Shanghai. The old one, full of historical buildings and on the other side you can see the new modern Shanghai full of high rise building.
For fine dining and wine, you can go to Xin Tian Di --anyone in Shanghai knows it-- lots of nice designed small restaurant.
For Night life, dance, drinks, can go to Park 97 -- famous place also.
But my all time favourite place --everytime I went Shanghai, have to stop by there -- is called "PEOPLE".

Make reservation first. The food style is fusion. Very nice ambience. Delicious food. Worth to try.
Ningbo, sorry, never been there. But it's famous of furniture, cheap one, but have to choose it carefully cos they don't really have quality control standard so the product might appear different one to another. Order some furniture for my company sake.
Have a nice trip. Wish the information will be helpful.

What's an easy way to find a company in China to manufacture Metal Pie tins?
I want to sell Pie Tins, and I know China is supposed to be a cheap way to make just about anything.
Does anyone know an easy way to break into doing that? Someone once told me I need a "broker" who speaks English + chinese to help me out (because I do not know Chinese).
Any information on this subject would be helpful. Thank you!
well, the one told you need a "broker" b/c he is a broker
if you never do business with Chinese before, it is quite a problem.
the first problem may be how to find the chinese manufacturers, it's very easy, search from google, or from some b2b site such as Alibaba.com, Made-in-china.com, and sooooooooo on.
then you send inquiries to the manufacturers and negociate with them about the prices, the quality and so on. BE careful because you many meet scams.
and then the last question is how to proceed the deal, it is quite complicated, but if you have any questions, you can write email to me.
i will try to help you.

Planning a tour to China can seem like an immense undertaking, like building the Great Wall! Time: How long will you have to tour China? Are you interested in seeing as many places as possible or would you prefer a longer stay immersed in a few locations? What time of year will you be traveling and what weather conditions do you preferOne of world's numerous man-made wonders is the Great Wall of China. For anyone planning on visiting China or any of its surrounding neighbors, a Great Wall of China tour is almost a requisite addition to the trip. However, with so much wall to see and so many tour options available it might be hard at times to know which Great Wall of China tours to trust and attend, and which ones to ignore. Of these seven Great Wall of China tour destinations, the Badaling section is the most well known. Many of the images taken of the Great Wall are from the Badaling section of the wall, many of them near or around the Juyonguan Pass. However, the Mutianyu portion of the Great Wall is another good touring destination, especially during the busy day's tourist seasons.
As a tourist spot, China offers a limitless variety of spectacular scenery and historical wonders. Generally May, September and October are ideal for touring anywhere in the country. During June to August, travelers often visit central and northern China, as rainfall is likely to occur in southern China during this time. Moreover October is ideal to travel anywhere and any region in the country. Because of the popularity of this tourist destination, large numbers of flights between China and countries like the United States, France, Britain and Hong Kong have been added, making it easier to make travel plans.
